Lorena Teran
I was born and raised in Panama, and with a North American and a Panamanian parents, I bring with me a taste of multicultural integration. As a girl, I was inclined towards mothers and babies, and now I am a blessed mother of three amazing young adults. I was also climbing trees as I grew up in the countryside of Panama, so moving to the Rocky Mountains to be outdoors as much as possible, enjoying hiking with our dog, kayaking, camping, and live a simple life, makes it feel like home. Being Certified as a Labor & Postpartum Doula, Lactation Counselor, and Infant Massage Instructor, extensively trained in infant sleep, and presently certifying in Prenatal Psychology, I bring a combination of knowledge and experience in supporting parents with connecting with their baby prenatally, to navigating birth (knowing now that the birth experience has a big impact on how our life unfolds and who we are), the transitions to parenthood, understanding postpartum recovery, boosting & (breast)feeding support, tips & tricks for less cry and more sleep, early brain development, and discipline with consciousness. I usually do overnights to help create a system, especially in those first weeks to help recovering baby’s birth weight, and so parents get some sleep. I have over 35 years working with families and their little ones in different fields. I speak fluent Spanish to babies, and introduce basic sign language, helping them expand their language skills. I am a strong promoter of prenatal bonding; my main focus is to help families as early as possible in their pregnancy. right after birth, and to read their newborn’s body language, help them express their feelings and practice processing them. Infants bring with them memories from the womb and the birth, which sometimes are manifested with cry. I model self-regulation, using tools like deep breathing and connection, helping little ones enjoy growing, feeling safe, loved, accepted, and understood, giving them tools to keep wanting to explore and be able to learn.
